Residential Water Meter FAQ
A residential water meter (also called a household water meter) is a device used to measure and record the amount of water used by a household. This water flow meter is usually installed in homes to accurately measure the water use of each household and provide a basis for billing for water supply companies.
According to different working principles and structural types, residential water meters can be divided into three categories: mechanical water meters, mechanical water meters with electronic devices, and electronic water flow meters.
Most residential water meters are single jet water meters or multi jet water meters. Whether it is a single jet or a multi jet residential water meter, their basic working principle is to use water flow to drive the impeller to rotate.
When water flows through the water flow meter, the impeller is driven by the water flow and begins to rotate. With each rotation, a constant volume of water flows through. This rotation speed is converted into a flow reading and recorded on the water flow meter.
A residential water meter is usually a round or square meter with numbers and a pointer on it. The number pointed by the pointer indicates the current water consumption.
Special household water meters, such as smart residential water flow meters, are usually simple and elegant in appearance, with LCD screens, clear digital displays, and simple and intuitive operation.
Record the current reading of the water meter and compare it with the previous reading. Subtract the two to calculate the water consumption during this period.
Detailed instructions are available in this blog: How to read a water meter?
The typical size of residential water meters varies by region and specific regulations. Common residential water meter sizes range from 1-1/2 inches, including: 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, 3/4 inch or 1 inch.
