What Is A Non-Magnetic Inductive Water Meter?

A non-magnetic inductive water meter, also known as an induction water meter, is a type of meter that uses a non-magnetic component for signal transmission to record water consumption. This design reduces interference from external magnetic fields.

How Does An Inductive Water Meter Work?

This type of inductive sensor water meter operates on the principle of the Hall effect to transmit water usage data.

Specifically, the meter sends signals through the rotation of a signaling pointer on its dial. Each time this signaling pointer completes one full rotation, a Hall effect sensor executes a switching action. This records the number of rotations. By multiplying the number of rotations by the volume of water corresponding to a single rotation, the total water consumption can be accurately calculated.

Finally, using remote communication protocols such as LoRa, NB-IoT, or M-Bus, the non-magnet inductive water meter can achieve remote data transmission.

Note: The signaling pointer is the semi-circular metal piece attached to the pointer of the lowest reading unit on the water meter’s dial.

Can The Signaling Frequency Of Inductive Meters Be Customized?

Yes. BMAG can customize the signal transmission frequency according to customer requirements. For example, it can be set to send a signal for every 0.0001m³, 0.001m³, 0.01m³, or 0.1m³, or the meter can be designed to signal once per 1 liter, 10 liters, or 100 liters.

The method is simple: by installing the metal signaling piece on pointers representing different units of measurement, the signaling frequency can be changed. This allows for flexible adjustment of both metering precision and the energy consumption of the signaling device.

Industrial water meters should also be non-magnet inductive water meters. Water consumption in the manufacturing sector is enormous, with some factories using nearly as much water as 1,000 households. If theft occurs on an industrial scale, it can also lead to massive uncollectible water bills.

How to Install and Maintain an Inductive Meter?

The installation method for a non-magnetic sensor water meter is the same as for a standard water meter. Key points to note are:

  • Pay attention to the installation direction, ensuring the arrow on the meter body aligns with the water flow direction.
  • Ensure the pipeline is clear and free of contaminants.
  • Avoid inclined installation to prevent measurement inaccuracies.
  • The electronic components for remote transmission are mostly made of plastic and should be protected from prolonged sun exposure and freezing temperatures.
