What Are The Components Of Water Meter?

Are you curious about the internal structure and components of the water meter? Today I will explain to you the mystery of the mechanical water meter structure.

What Is A Mechanical Water Meter?

A mechanical water meter is a mechanical device designed to measure water flow. It is the earliest type of water meter, with a history spanning nearly 200 years. These meters are highly reliable, cost-effective, and most widely used worldwide.

What Is The Structure Of A Water Meter?

A water meter consists of three main components:

1. Water Meter Body

The meter body protects the internal parts and is made of metal or plastic, ensuring durability against environmental conditions.
The water meter body’s material is primarily made of brass, plastic, and bronze.

2. Driving Mechanism

The driving mechanism provides the driving force for the water meter and serves as the power source for the measuring mechanism. When water flows into the Water Meter Body, it drives the vane to rotate, which in turn activates the gear mechanism in the measuring device through either mechanical or magnetic transmission.

3. Measuring Mechanism

The measuring mechanism is the core part of the water meter. Inside, a series of interconnected gears measure water usage, converting flow into readable data.

What Does The Inside Of A Water Meter Look Like?

The water meter’s Register consists of a gear train of multiple gears that drive the low-flow indicator, pointer, and digit wheel to record water usage.
The pointer and digit wheel typically feature 5 to 9 digits, with the number of digits varying based on local industry standards, the intended use of the water meter, and the measurement units.

The register also includes a magnetic drive mechanism for water meters with an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. Because these meters are completely sealed, traditional mechanical transmission methods cannot be used to rotate the gears. Instead, a magnetic drive system is employed to turn the gears. So a magnetic shield must be installed beneath the Register to prevent external magnetic fields from interfering with the meter’s accuracy.

Mechanical water meters are valued for their maturity and stable performance, making them a popular choice for water measurement.
